Gibraltar Airport (GIB) is located on the very southern most tip of the Costa del Sol a few kms from the north African continent and on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean (See the interactive Gibraltar Airport Map).

Gibraltar Airport offers another alternative for people visiting the Costa del Sol, especially if you are staying west of Estepona.

It is ideal if you are staying anywhere from La Linea right up to Marbella on the Costa del Sol or up to Jerez on the Costa de la Luz. Although it is quite a small airport, there are flights everyday from Luton Airport, Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport, Liverpool and Manchester with Monarch Airlines, EasyJet, British Airways and American Airlines.

Gibraltar Airport Modernisation

There is a brand new terminal building that has been built at Gibraltar Airport and the aim is to have one half on Gibraltar soil and the other on Spanish. However there are still many politcal points to be resolved so currently it is all within Gibraltar itself.

The new terminal is now open for both departures and arrivals and offers more facilities than the old terminal The check-in desks are modern with more staff operating them making it much easier and faster to check-in baggage.

Taxis and Buses Gibraltar Airport

If you are heading into the main part of Gibraltar from the airport there is a taxi rank opposite the airport as well as a bus stop for access to Main Street and other parts of the Gibraltar. If you are heading into Spain from Gibraltar Airport then you will need to go through customs and cross the border into Spain and on your right will be a Spanish taxi rank. A couple of hundred meters straight across the road you will find the bus station where you can get a bus to many of the other major resorts of the Costa del Sol.
