Malaga International Airport or Malaga AGP Airport to give it its full international code is located a short distance from Malaga city centre, about 8kms to be precise. It is the main airport serving the Costa del Sol and is one of the busiest Spanish airports already handling over 4.8 million passengers per year. This number is set to double over the coming years now that the Malaga airport expansion is completed with the opening of a brand new terminal building, Malaga Airport Terminal 3.

Checking-in at Malaga Airport is fairly straightforward with the check-in desks for international flights all situated on the upper floor of the terminal building.

Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at Malaga International Airport are connected internally and are just a short stroll from one another. There are ample screens to find your flight and the associated check-in desks.

To check in for most UK low cost airlines you will still have to use the older terminal 2 building but once checked in you head over to terminal 3 for security checks and access to the flights.

Security and Airport Lounges at Malaga Airport

For international flights out of Malaga Airport, once you have checked your baggage you will see the security area roped off at the back of terminal 3. If you have checked in for a low cost UK flight you will need to walk from terminal 2 to terminal 3 (a very short stroll to your right as you look at the desks).

Now that terminal 3 is open there are lots of facilties at Malaga Airport including a Starbucks coffee shop, a Whopper Bar and a Lamoraga Tapas restaurant as well as much more.

Being Dropped Off at Malaga Airport

If you are being dropped off at Malaga Airport there is a little side road just in front of the lane that takes you to the car parks from the upper level (see photo below). Please note that it is near impossible to pull over on the lower level where the flight arrivals are.

Arriving at Malaga Airport on a Flight

When you fly in to Malaga Airport there is usually a fairly long walk from the arrivals gate to the luggage collection area. If you need assistance there are normally a number of buggies that you can jump on to take you to the luggage hall.

Once you have collected your luggage you make your way to the new arrivals hall which now comprises of a large glass screen. This is located on the lower level of the terminal 3 building.

Buses and Taxis at Malaga Airport

If you need a taxi from Malaga Airport the taxi rank is just outside of the arrivals hall. There is normally a large queue but with many taxis available it moves quite fast.

If you need a bus you will also find the main bus stops outside of the arrivals hall. This is also where most of the courtesy buses for the car hire or long term car parks will pick up and drop off.
