Spanish airports processed 203,793,594 passengers last year with a large number going through Malaga Airport (12,813,764), Alicante processing 9,578,308 passengers and Madrid nearly a quarter of the annual total alone at 50,846,104.

There are a good number of Spanish airports to choose from when planning your trip to Spain, whichever part you are visiting and most areas will offer more then one Spanish airport.

The Costa de la Luz: This is the western coast of Spain on the Atlantic Ocean which is home to popular cities like Huelva and Seville. The main Spanish airports for this coast are Seville Airport, Jerez Airport or Gibraltar Airport. However if you are nearer to Portugal on the Costa de la Luz you could also consider the Portuguese airport, Faro Airport as it is only 20 minute across from the border with Spain.

The Costa del Sol: This is probably the most famous stretch of coast in Spain and is mainly served by Spain's busiest airport, Malaga Airport. Other Spanish airports that could be considered for the Costa del Sol are Gibraltar or Granada Airports. There is a misconception that there is actually a Marbella Airport so please remember that the aforementioned airports would be your best choices.

The Costa Tropical: This is a lesser known stretch of coast that starts just after the Costa del Sol and finishes before Costa Almeria. The main airport for this section would be Granada Airport or possibly other Spanish airports like Almeria or even Malaga.

The Costa Almeria: As you move up the coast from the Costa Tropical you come to the Costa Almeria where the main airport is Almeria Airport. Other Spanish Airports to consider would be Granada or Murcia.

The Costa Calida: This coast has become quite popular over the last few years and is served by Mucria Airport or maybe Alicante Airport.

The Costa Blanca: This is quite a large section of the Spanish coast so for the southern Costa Blanca we would recommend Alicante Airport or even Murcia Airport. For the northern Costa Blanca Valencia Airport might be a better option although many people still use Alicante due to the larger choice of flights.

The Costa Brava: Home to famous resorts like Lloret de Mar the main Spanish airport for this area would be Girona Airport or maybe even Barcelona Airport.

The Balearics is made up of the islands Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza: The airport for Mallorca is Palma de Mallorca airport (also spelt Majorca)
