Gibraltar Airport (GIB) is located on the very southern most tip of the Costa del Sol a few kms from the north African continent and on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean (See the interactive Gibraltar Airport Map). Gibraltar Airport offers another alternative for people visiting the Costa del Sol, especially if you are staying west of Estepona.

Gibraltar Airport is ideal if you are staying anywhere from La Linea right up to Marbella on the Costa del Sol or up to Jerez on the Costa de la Luz. Although it is quite a small airport, Gibraltar Airport has flights everyday from Luton Airport, Gatwick Airport, Heathrow Airport, Liverpool Airport and Manchester Airport with Monarch Airlines, EasyJet, British Airways and American Airlines.

Gibraltar Airport Modernisation

There is a brand new terminal building that has been built at Gibraltar Airport and the aim is to have one half on Gibraltar soil and the other on Spanish. However there are still many politcal points to be resolved so currently it is all within Gibraltar itself.

At the moment the new terminal building at Gibraltar Airport is for flight arrivals.

Location of Gibraltar Airport

Gibraltar Airport is accessed via the Spanish town of La Linea on the very start of the Costa del Sol. It is about 20 minutes from Sotogrande, 30 minutes from Estepona and 45 minutes from Marbella. In the other direction Gibraltar Airport is about an hour from Jerez de la Frontera.

From either direction you will ideally need to access La Linea on the coast road and follow the coastline until you get the the slip road to take you across the border. Please remember that by car it could take you and hour or so to cross the border at peak times or in the summer months.

Taxis and Buses Gibraltar Airport

If you are heading into the main part of Gibraltar from the airport there is a taxi rank opposite the airport as well as a bus stop for access to Main Street and other parts of the Gibraltar. If you are heading into Spain from Gibraltar Airport then you will need to go through customs and cross the border into Spain and on your right will be a Spanish taxi rank. A couple of hundred meters straight across the road you will find the bus station where you can get a bus to many of the other major resorts of the Costa del Sol.

Parking at Gibraltar Airport

There is an official car park for the airport located on the opposite side of the road from the airport which is very reasonably priced starting at 60 pence for an hour. In addition a little further up (about 100 yards) is another car park called the Rotunda Car Park which is another 24 car park priced very much the same..
