The airport itself you will find located south west of the main city of Barcelona between the areas of El Prat de Llobregat, Sant Boli and Viladecans . You will note that Barcelona Airport is only 3kms from the main port at Barcelona making it very useful for people needing to fly in for cruises or simply for people spending time in the city.

Barcelona Airport is considered to be one of the most important in the Catalan area in terms of business and tourism. The ongoing upgrading and modernisation of Barcelona Airport means it has become one of the important and strategic hubs for international travel to and from Spain.

This is demonstrated with the ever increasing passenger numbers, which went from under 12 million back in 1995 to a huge 52.5 million in 2019, making it one of Europe’s fasting growing airports.

In 2004 the main runway was extended so that the airport could handle up to 90 operations per hour.

The Barcelona Plan also included the construction of the impressive terminal called T1, which allowed for 33 million users to be processed through the terminal per year.

After that the terminal T2 and shopping areas of Barcelona Airport also underwent modernisation.

In 2022 the airport handled 41,639,622 passengers.
