Alicante Airport (ALC) serves the southern and central Costa Blanca for holiday destinations like Torrevieja, Benidorm and of course Alicante. Although not as busy as Malaga Airport it still deals with over 3 million passengers a year and is still one of Spain busiest international airports.
The Airport deals mainly with flights from the UK, Germany and Holland, although there is increasing demand from some Spanish domestic routes like Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca.
About Alicante Airport
Construction of the airport began in 1965 with the development of some 2,700 metres of runway and taxi area. A couple of years later in 1967 Alicante Airport was opened for international flights, domestic flights as as well commercial flights. The airport soon became busier and buiser and underwent several revamps, the last of which was in 1996 when it underwent a major refurbishment.
Facilities at the Airport
Like all main airports there are a number of shops and restaurants to help pass the time before flights and of course to pick up any items.
You will find the following shops and facilities at Alicante Airport;
Floor 2 (passangers only zone): Desigual, El Corte Inglés, Las Lilas, Swarovski, Travel Mate-Cottet Sol, Tuc Tuc-Story Store, Your Fashion Store. Also on this floor is Sibarium Delicatessen and Sweet (sweet shop).
There are two Duty Free shops in departures The Express Shop and The Shop and one in arrivals simply called Arrivals Shop.
If you need any electronic equipment, music, games or other milti-media items there is a Crystal Media Shop located on the 2nd floor in the passenger only zone – Telephone number 0034 965 687 156
For books and magazined there are two shops one called News and Books (public zone) and the other called Relay located in the passenger only zone
